Hey :) So I'm Rachael I'm 13 and I started grade 10 today, I'm home schooled, and already have all my courses for grade 11 & 12 planned. Are they too arts centered if I want to go for a science degree after school (hoping to a double major B.A. and B.Sc. and then go on to get a M.Ed.) or is it fairly well rounded? Grade 9 Biology (9) Algebra I (9-11) Modern History (9) Themes in Literature (9) Grade 10 Chemistry (10) Plane Geometry (10-11) Algebra II (10-11) Grammar and Composition IV (10) World Literature (10) Around the World in 180 Days (9-12) Bible Doctrines (10) Vocabulary Spelling Poetry IV (10) Revelation* (12) Grade 11 Physics Grammar and Composition V (11) English Literature (12) American Literature (11) Vocabulary Spelling V (11) Economics* (12) Genesis* (12) Pre-Calculus (12-) Grade 12 Grammar and Composition VI (12) Vocabulary (12) Consumer Mathematics (9-12) Business Mathematics (10-12) College Level English (Correspondence with local university) College Level Biology (Correspondence with local university OR advanced home school curriculum) College Level Chemistry (advanced Home school curriculum) oh and the (10-12) kinda stuff is the grade level of each course :) I've also been taking acting class for 4 years and have been in the Advanced Company for 2 years, and I've been taking singing lessons for 3 years I take official music exams (Royal Conservatory) for theory and singing, and in grade 12 will be taking Music History, and Harmony exams.(they count as fine arts credits for public high school students in my province) and compete in my provincial music festival. also, my dad is a graphic design artist and I do a lot of that, I'm almost at a professional level. thanks for your help! xoxo Rachael Marie
Answer: Your tentative plan for your 4 years of high school looks GREAT in my opinion. You have 5 sciences and I believe that is enough. The only other idea I have for you would be that you should go online and check out several sites of universities that you are considering. Find out what their admissions requirements are. Make sure that your plan includes everything they would want. I think you have a good plan in general and it is very well-rounded, but some universities might require specific things.

2. Economics Question Please Help?
Why do economists consider growth in average labor productivity to be the key factor in determining long-run living standards?
Answer: Because living standards are calculated as per capita. Therefore in order to have higher living standards you have to increase the amount of output per unit of labor.

3. What does a good debate question look like?
So on Friday, my honors civics & economics class is having a debate. I'm in a group of 4, and there are 3 parts to the group: opening argument, closing argument, and 2 questioners. My friend and I both got assigned to be questions, and though we asked the teacher what kind of questions we should ask, he wasn't much help. The topic is that "the British Monarchy is the best form of government," and we are the affirmative side. The prompt is mainly aimed at the colonial period, although we're allowed to bring modern aspects into our argument. The assignment sheet also says that "groups with this prompt must address the 'good' and 'bad' aspects of monarchy/democracy in the Revolutionary/Tory Literature." A few points we've come up with so far are below: - Democracy is a very slow form of government, in that it takes a long time for laws to be passed - the British monarchy lasted for hundreds of years - the monarch does not have the most power due to Parliament - Monarachy is cost effective because the staff is much smaller So basically what I'm asking for is just for someone to show my friend and I what a good question would look like. It would be nice if you could use one relative to our prompt, even if it's negative as opposed to affirmative, but really any example would work. Thanks so much!
Answer: A question I would ask is: "How would the UK and the British people be better off with a different system of government?" I am guessing that your opposing team are going to try and say that democracy is clearly the better form of government as it respects the will of the people (that's what I'd do in their place). In response you can say: with only a few exceptions, the monarchy in the UK has always been support the majority of the British people. This is the case to this today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7162649.stm So, if the other team say the monarchy is undemocratic, you can say that in fact keeping the monarchy in the UK respects the will of the British people.

4. Chances of getting into UGA Early Admission?
I'm a high school senior and I'm applying for early action to UGA (University of Georgia). Do you think I have a chance of being accepted early based on: -4.0 GPA (4.0 is the highest in my school) -Ranked 3rd in my class.(top 1% I guess) -550 Reading 610 Math 530 Writing = 1690 SAT score -25 English 29 Math 25 Reading 25 Science 22 Combined Eng/Writing = 26 Composite ACT Score -Race: Asian -Gender: Male -Will have taken 9 AP classes: AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP US History, AP Physics B, 11th grade AP Lang/Comp., 12th grade AP Lang/Comp, AP Statistics, AP Gov, AP Economics, The rest are gifted or electives -Extracurricular: Beta Club, Tennis (varsity), Taekwondo, Bboy Club, FBLA, Interact, NHS (Historian), Science Olympiad, SpanishHS (Vice President), Environmental, Med Club -Achievements: Medaled in Science Olympiad many times, Perfect Attendence/All A's, Cords for clubs/reaching hours, community service through the clubs -Other: No discipline problems Basically what I could think of. I'm worried I won't get accepted early or during regular. My SAT and ACT scores are RIGHT below the middle 50% just barely. I'm hoping the other things, minority/GPA would help. Any answers or tips to improve my stats? Thanks for the answer(s) :]
Answer: I would be surprised if you didn't get into UGA. I think you'll get in early admission too. You have above averages grades, a high class ranking, and you've taken quite a number of AP classes. Your SAT score shouldn't matter as much compared to the other things. They take into consideration that those tests are stressful and some people just don't test well despite being highly intelligent.

5. What is postwar expansion and what is real GDP?
What is postwar expansion and what is real GDP? I have no idea on economics. Help! Thanks in advance.
Answer: Postwar expansion refers to increased economic activity following a war, which took resources away from the economy in order to conduct the war. It means that after the war, people were ready to buy more consumer goods, which, depending on what war and what country you are talking about, may have been unavailable during the war. Companies would start producing more consumer goods to meet this increase in demand. Again, depending on what country and what war you are talking about, it could also mean recontstruction (and improvements) for buildings etc that were destroyed during the war. From a historical perspective, I have heard this term mostly relating to the end of World War II, but which war depends on the context that it is talking about. To understand what real GDP is, you first have to understand what GDP is. GDP is a measure of the total dollar amount of goods produced in a country in one year. It is designed to give people an idea about how big the economy is. Since it is only a number, it doesn't make sense unless it is used to compare with other numbers. This comparison is usually comparing the production in a nation from one year to another year. If the number goes up, then it is assumed that production has increased. But this assumption has a major drawback: the number can go up or down because the actual amount of goods and services produced went up or down, or the number can go up or down simply because the prices went up or down, or (in the real world, always) it is some combination of both. Because of this, the GDP numbers themselves don't tell you what you want to know (how much did actual production change). Real GDP is an adjustment to GDP (called nominal GDP) to remove the affects of price changes. What is left, then, is a number that can be compared from one year to another for actual changes in the amount of production.
